10 ANNIVERSARY (Opening Santa Gertrudis Gallery)
The Parra & Romero Gallery opens its new space in the center of Santa Gertrudis with a special group exhibition to celebrate the gallery’s nearly ten years in Ibiza. The exhibition brings together works by eleven artists, some emerging and others established.
Among the latter is the gallery’s newest addition, Claudio Parmiggiani, an Italian artist who served as Giorgio Morandi’s assistant. His work has left a lasting impression on him, as has the theme of time, as can be seen in the two paintings he has in the exhibition, both created with smoke and soot on wooden panels.
Another veteran of this exhibition is Heinz Mack, co-founder of the Zero group in the 1950s. The 91-year-old German artist is exhibiting several golden sculptures reminiscent of Middle Eastern art and a pastel painting on finger-painted paper. From Robert Barry, a pioneer of conceptual art and minimalism in the United States, visitors can see a work featuring his famous words, in this case on a blue mirror, dating from 2015.
Parra & Romero also offers the opportunity to view works by other cult artists, such as two canvases by Ian Wallace—the founder of photoconceptualism alongside the Vancouver School group—in which he blends painting and photography to depict his own creative process in his studio; two works by Helmut Federle, which are part of his iconic series ‘Basics on Composition’; and the German artist Wolfram Ullrich, whose work straddles the boundaries between sculpture and painting.
Among the younger artists participating in this group exhibition is a new addition to Parra & Romero: Frederic Anderson, two of whose minimalist works are on display, blending watercolor, chalk, pigments, and pastel; another young artist, Madrid-based David Magán, exhibits several of his colorful methacrylate sculptures; while in the small adjoining room we can view works by Lara Almarcegui, Thomas Scheibitz, and photographs by Ugo Mulas.
