Suling Wang

Suling Wang (1969) vive y trabaja en Londres. Nació y se crió en Taiwan en un ambiente rural. En 1993 se mudó a Londres y se graduó con un MA en Pintura en el Royal College of Art en 1999. Su trabajo ha evolucionado consistentemente hacia una estética contemporánea a través siempre de un marcado interés en plasmar su identidad y su ubicación en el mundo como artista. El arte de Suling Wang está marcado por una incertidumbre causada por su emplazamiento dentro de unas tradiciones culturales casi opuestas. Creció en una cultura en la que la compresión del mundo está basada en la tradición oral. Esta diversidad se hace patente en sus cuadros. Sus lienzos de gran tamaño representan frecuentemente paisajes fantásticos que estéticamente recuerdan al arte asiático pero están dotados de una apreciación más amplia de la pintura.

Suling Wang (1969) lives and works in London. She was born and brought up in Taiwan, in a rural environment. In 1993 she moved to London and graduated with an MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art in 1999. Her work has evolved consistently towards a contemporary aesthetic, always through a marked interest in expressing her identity and her situation in the world as an artist. The art of Suling Wang is marked by uncertainty caused by her place within two almost opposed cultural traditions. She grew up in a culture in which understanding of the world is based on an oral tradition. Her large canvases often portray fantastic landscapes recalling the aesthetics of East Asian Art, but they are informed by a broader appreciation of painting and this diversity becomes potent in her works.
