Katharina
Grosse (1961) vive y trabaja en Dusseldorf. Lo que más le ha interesado
de la pintura es el proceso y la cualidad expansiva y transformadora de este
lenguaje. Desde los principios de su carrera Katharina pinta fuera del lienzo:
paredes, techos, puertas, estanterías, vallas publicitarias, fachadas
de edificios son transformadas por la pintura y sacados de su función
dotándoles de una cualidad simbólica. Por tanto, el diálogo
que se produce con el espectador no es sólo a través del color
sino también del espacio que éste ocupa: su historia, sus memorias,
su función. Aun tomando la estética del graffiti como la aplicación
de la pintura en spray en lugares públicos, Katharina no esta interesada
en el aspecto reivindicativo del graffiti como lo estuvieron pintores como
Harrings o Basquiat, sino que está interesada en las experiencias sicológicas
causadas por la pintura en spray, como es la imposibilidad de mezclar colores.

Katharina
Grosse (1961) lives and works in Dusseldorf. Her main interest in painting
focuses on the process and the expansive and transforming quality of this
language. From the start of her career Katherina has painted outside the canvas:
walls, ceilings, doors, shelving, advertisement hoardings, and façades
of buildings are transformed by paint and removed from their function, becoming
endowed with a symbolic quality. Thus, the dialogue occurring with the spectator
arises not only from the colour but also from the space it occupies: its history,
its memories, its function. Though taking the graffiti aesthetic as in the
application of spray paint in public places, Katharina is not interested in
the protest aspect of graffiti, as were Harrings or Basquiat, concentrating
rather on the psychological experiences caused by spray painting, such as
the impossibility of mixing colours.
