Won Ju Lim:Broken Landscape
La galería Pilar Parra & Romero tiene el placer de presentar la segunda exposición individual de la artista Won Ju Lim en España.
En esta exposición Lim toma un camino diferente a sus trabajos anteriores, aunque en ningún momento deja de lado su constante exploración en la relación entre cuerpo, espacio, tiempo y memoria a través de la arquitectura, la escultura y la atmósfera.
En la serie de trabajos “Broken Landscapes” Lim presenta un método de trabajo completamente nuevo en el que quiebra pinturas de paisajes, los corta y los une nuevamente. Las piezas se convierten en un mosaico de recuerdos, reconstruidos con rajaduras y espacios que equivalen a los hoyos y vacíos de nuestros propios recuerdos. Lim deconstruye un recuerdo para inventar otro.
Para las esculturas de la serie “Ruined Traces” Lim trabaja con las propiedades del espacio y la luz, usa materiales sintéticos y naturales creando un juego entre lo real y lo hiper-real. Pequeñas casas a escala yacen en colinas encapsuladas en estructuras de plexiglas. Los cambios de escala y perspectiva requieren que el espectador se introduzca en una atmósfera surreal en el que las colinas se disuelven en unas ruinas de yesos.

In this exhibition Lim makes a departure from previous works, but the core of her exploration is present as she seeks to define the body’s relationship to space, time and memory through the terms of architecture, sculpture and atmosphere.
In the series of works called “Broken Landscapes” Lim presents an entirely new working method. Here, the artist has broken down a series of landscape paintings, cutting the works apart and putting them back together. The paintings become a mosaic of memories, as they are refashioned with cracks and gaps in reference to our own memories that often have holes and vacant spaces. It’s in these spaces were we fabricate realities of the past based on our own perceptions and histories we have invented.
In “Ruined Traces”, Lim is working with the conditions of light and space, using three-dimensional sculptures, materials that are both synthetic and natural, making a play between the real and the hyper-real. The components illustrate contradictions between the material and the space it occupies. Small model homes rest upon rolling hills with lush foliage, encased in plexiglas structures.
